Holistic acne treatments: developing a personalized treatment plan

Updated: Feb 28, 2023

Acne is one of the most common (and frustrating!) skin conditions. If it is so common, then why do we have such a hard time treating it? The most common mistake I see when working with acne patients is that they are forgetting to treat acne from both the inside and the outside!

While a consistent and well thought out skin care routine is very important, no cleanser or serum will be able to address something like an underlying hormone imbalance or an imbalance in our digestive flora.

There are so many different possible causes of acne. Different causes, different contributors and different skin types mean that one treatment may work well for one person and not for the next. So what are some of the factors that may be contributing to your acne?

Common Causes of Acne

Treating acne with a targeted and individualized approach is so important. And this can take time! The key to a good acne treatment is that time needs to be spent working through which underlying factors are causing and contributing to your acne.

Possible causes and contributors of acne may include:

- Hormonal imbalances

- Imbalances in our digestive system

- Bacterial or fungal in origin

- Inflammatory or skin hygiene related

- Sensitivities to certain foods

- Stress related

- Blood sugar dysregulation

- Overwhelmed detoxification pathways in the body

- A combination of the above (this is usually the case!)

A detailed intake can allow us to determine which of the previous causes are contributing to acne. This is key in deciding what is going to be the best course of treatment for you and your specific skin needs!

Individualized and targeted care allows for better results

Treatment Options For Acne

So what treatments are available to use for acne and acne prone skin? There really are so many treatment options that we can include in a holistic acne treatment plan. Regardless of which treatments we are using, the key to seeing any benefits is CONSISTENCY!

Some of the most common treatment options I use with my acne patients are:

Lab testing! Let's identify the root cause of your acne

Prescription hormone balancing medications

Prescription topical antibiotics & other topical prescription medications

Custom herbal medicine blends

-LED therapy

-Facial acupuncture

- Lifestyle and skin hygiene habits

-Dietary adjustments and digestive support

-Nutrient replenishment through oral supplementation or IV therapy

How to Begin Treatment for my Acne

Are you ready to take the next step and seek out support in managing your acne?

Let's work together to get you feeling confident in your skin!

The first step in beginning treatment is to book in for an initial 60 minute health consultation. This will allow us the time to really get to the root of what is causing your skin complaints. From there we will work together to create a custom treatment plan!
